Charity champions want to make a difference

FIVE brave charity champions are preparing for a dramatic white-knuckle 100ft abseil from the top of the Hogan Stand in Croke Park to raise funds for a cause close to their hearts.

Shirley Nagle, Nora O’Connor, Kay O’Keeffe, Sheila Casey and Grainne Lynch, from Rathmore, will put themselves to the ultimate test at GAA headquarters on October 13 and, in the process, they are hoping to raise as much as possible for the Kerry branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The plucky ladies have set up a fundraising page for donations and it can be accessed at https://croke-park-abseils-2018.everydayhero.com/ie/grainne-abseils-croke-park-for-motor-neurone.

The famous five said they are undertaking the abseiling adventure because they want to make a difference.

“We are inspired by the work of the IMNDA and wanted to support them by raising money,” said Shirley who stressed that over 80 per cent of the charity’s income comes from fundraising and money raised in Kerry will go directly to helping patients in the county.

The five ladies also hosted a hugely successful coffee morning in Cahill’s Bar, Rathmore last Friday and they were overwhelmed by the support for the event and the contributions received on the day.

“The generosity of the people was just phenomenal and we would like to thank everybody for turning out and all those that so generously baked for occasion,” Shirley said.
