The main aim of Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone is to create an awareness of the disease and to put those suffering from Motor Neurone Disease at the heart of all our focus.
Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone are a voluntary organisation formed in early 2011.
The role of our organisation is to support people diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, their carers and their families.
At any given time there are on average between 14 and  17 people suffering from Motor Neurone Disease in Kerry. The national average is between 300 and 380.The average life expectancy for someone diagnosed with the disease is 3 – 5 years.Since we were formed in 2011 Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone  have worked tirelessly fundraising for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. We have organised sponsored walks, staged a High Nelly cycle day in period costume and participated in the Ring of Kerry charity cycle in 2014.Our Association hold a annual flag day  in Killarney town and we have been supported by many clubs, businesses and organisations not to mention all the individuals who supported us along the way. We are particularly grateful to the people of Kerry for their unfailing generosity.Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone have been inspired by the many Motor Neurone sufferers and their families that we have met along the way. They offer us great encouragement and support in all we do.Sadly Motor Neurone Disease does not go away and fundraising does not get any easier but Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone will continue to participate in fundraising in the hope that in the not too distant future medical science may find a cure.
